The sidewall segment of an air taxi is virtually extended to include the cockpit. Actual dimensions are better estimated.
Diehl Aviation has been working on the development of components for innovative, battery-powered air taxis (eVTOL) for several years. For presentations at trade fairs and events, a full-size sidewall segment of the eVTOL was produced as an exhibit. The challenge during presentations was to use this rather minimalistic exhibit to explain in a tangible and vivid way the multitude of innovative functions and cutting-edge technologies used in air taxis.
Expand the exhibit virtually — with augmented reality and an interactive iPad application.
With the AR application, the minimalistic sidewall exhibit is virtually extended and now enables a comprehensive presentation of the eVTOL. Everything that is visible from the side wall to the front in the air taxi is represented virtually with 3D models. For example, the cockpit or the ceiling can be viewed from close range. Visualization with animations makes it easy to understand functions within the air taxi. In addition, the AR application offers the option of specifically selecting different air taxi products, for example to simulate different lighting scenarios. The virtual display in real size ensures that actual dimensions can be better estimated. Overall, the AR application thus creates an immersive experience that impressively conveys the innovative character and special features of air taxis.
